The key art created for "Castaway" required colorization of the scanned-in 8 x 10 image. It was then masked out and placed on a tropical beach image.
The layout and design for this title was made for MGM/UA's Legacy "Movie Time" VHS library series
The title art needed to be recreated digitally, based on the original theatrical release one-sheet poster title art.
CASTAWAY
Key art image composition and design. Created for the United Artists film "Castaway" DVD clamshell packaging.
I was responsible for the image composition, design and digital illustration. The client was MGM/UA Studios.
After I had colorized the original black & white image, great care had to be taken to "paint" in the digital masking for each individual hair, in order to have to knock-out properly.
Like many of the older MGM/UA titles, we had very limited access to any still unit photography, or publicity images. This lead to the need to colorize one of the 8 x 10 black & white publicity photos.
This collage shows the colorized final composed image, overlaid onto the original black & white source image, to show a comparison between the start point and end result.
